On request of the ruling body of the UCI, the 2010 edition will be placed under the sign of an important innovation, the length of the circuit having been reduced to 5,42 km. The circuit of Houffalize, which the bikers adore for the alternation between technical and physical portions, will nevertheless still keep its legendary selectivity. A selectivity associated with a notoriety thanks to which the Belgian event has become an unavoidable classic within the world of international XCO. The 2009 edition which took place in the presence of 20.000 spectators and was covered by a live broadcast on the RTBF (French-speaking television) saw the victory of the double Olympic champion, the Frenchman Julien Absalon among men, and of the Spanish biker, Margarita Fullana among women. Besides the Belgian rounds of the UCI World Cup of XCO and of 4X, Houffalize will discover an attractive programme of side races on Saturday 1st May. A program which makes the originality and the specificity of the Belgian organization by attracting each year more than a thousand competitors keen to run on one of the most appreciated circuits of the world challenge. The Houffalize 2009 vintage will remain faithful to the tradition. Saturday will be placed under the sign of an impressing non-stop with the official Juniors’ World Cup (men/women) and three side events: the so-called “Citizen Races” which are accessible to the open class - hopes, elites and masters - with licence (12:00), to the open class - beginners, juniors, women, Fun A - with licence (4:30) and to the open class without licence (Fun B) (4:30). Let’s mention that the race which is reserved to the open class with licence for the hopes, the elites and the masters will take place on the whole “World Cup” circuit, whereas the other two races will be run on a slightly modified circuit in order not to disturb the preparation and the trainings of the Four Cross World Cup. 4X AreaAfter a very successful première that took place in the evening and was followed by 10.000 spectators, the “UCI World Cup of Four Cross” will once again stop in Houffalize, more precisely on 1st May. Don’t forget : the Belgian round of 2010 will also mark the official opening of the world challenge of this spectacular discipline. In other words, the top pilots in the world will be present in the Ardennes of Luxembourg. As in May last year, the participants will compete on a 450 meter long track with a difference in height of 120 meters. World Cup Four Cross (4X)
The year 2009 will remain famous for the creation of an official “UCI World Cup” open to the juniors' category. Following the example of some other countries that host the “World Cup”, Houffalize had anticipated the UCI approach by integrating this event in its 2008 program. This year, the future stars of the world circuit will compete on the track of Houffalize on Saturday 1st May 2001 in the early afternoon.
